Sessoms Bay Wetland Restoration

Watershed Consulting applied 2D hydraulic modeling to assess existing and proposed conditions in a NRCS Wetland Restoration Project. The Sessoms Bay site is an extensive 1600-acre NRCS wetland comprised of 7 interconnected wetland cells. Watershed Consulting applied 2D hydraulic modeling to evaluate water levels, water control structure performance, velocity, and shear stress under various storm scenarios. As a result of Hurricane Florence in 2018, wetland berms and water control structures were overtopped and damaged. This analysis was utilized to suggest design improvements and retrofits that protect from future large rain events.
